Geschwister – Kardeşler
Directed by Thomas Arslan
Synopsis
Thomas Arslan's second feature film and part of his Berlin-trilogy is a slow-paced milieu study of German-Turkish youth in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The film depicts the every day life, domestic conflicts, dreams and disappointments of three siblings and their aimless, meandering strolls through the Kreuzberg district.

Thomas Arslans Berlin Trilogie Teil 1
GeschwisterBerlin/Kreuzberg

don’t take it as bad acting, take it as very raw expressions that make you de naturalise the things that are said. so direct and empathetic, i love arslans movies

Kool Savas nutzt in diesem Film morgens Cola als Mundspülung.

As girl has already stated, bad acting is not a category for reviewing Thomas Arslan's Brothers and Sister (Geschwister – Kardeşler). The alienation effect caused by amateur actors reciting written dialogue is intentional. It brings us into a freer relationship with the work of art and activates our own thinking and feeling. In this process, something paradoxical happens: the alienation effect creates a distance and at the same time a particular intimacy with the characters. Thomas Arslan succeeds in this in a truly beautiful and touching way.

Aimless Turkish teens wander Berlin and drink an obscene amount of Coca-Cola in Arslan's engaging low-key MEAN STREETS variation.
Also: MORTAL KOMBAT poster sighting.

didn't vibe with this one so much. maybe the dialogue felt kinda stilted because the subtitles were translated poorly but i got the sense from the acting that they just sounded unnatural at times. interesting conceptually but i really think they could have done more with it.

Yes, the dialogues between the teenagers are terrible but that's exactly what makes them so realistic

Early Berlin School statement of purpose from Arslan as an intimate study of character and space; an immersive portrait of a group of young Turkish-Germans in their rough corner of Kreuzberg. “You want to grow roots here, or what?” Sensitive to the plight of the hyphenate citizen who’s sometimes going to feel never quite enough of either half of whatever ethnic label they never even asked to have. The way Erol feels drawn to a Turkey he only dimly remembers, his family baffled as to what he would possibly want to do in a place that’s never really been his home. “What am I doing here? Can you answer that fucking question?” At its best when it’s just moodily following…
